The Question

All you have to do is make the complete paper in current apa format and proof read it. I was having trouble getting all the reference page in order, and not sure if there are graphs if they go in order or if they have to be at the end.

We changed Nucor?s organizational structure to the strategic business unit (SBU) structure.

SBU structure ?delegates authority and responsibility for each unit to a senior executive who reports

directly to the chief executive officer? (David & David, 2017, p. 218). This structure helps deal with

the ambiguous of vice presidents because it improves the coordination and accountability of the

organization (David & David, 2017, p.218). SBU structure is more effective by making ?the tasks of

planning and control by corporate office more manageable? (David & David, 2017, p.218).

Nucor uses the functional structure, which is the most widely used structure (David & David,

2017, p. 214). ?A functional structure groups tasks and activities by business function, such as

production and operations, marketing, finance and accounting, research and development, and

management information system? (David & David, 2017, p. 215).

Pros of a functional structure are it ?promotes specialization of labor, encourages efficient use

of managerial and technical talent, minimizes the need for an elaborate control system and allows

rapid decision making? (David & David, 2017, p.215). A pro for SBU is it makes it easier in

handling multiple brands or products because they are separate business units which are

accountable for the success or failure of the business or product (Bhasin, 2016, p. 1). Another

pro of the SBU structure is that managers get more independence to manage their own unit

which gives them the opportunity to be more creative and innovative and empowers them for

making decisions (Bhasin, 2016, p.1).

According to David & David (David & David, 2017), some of the con would be it forces

accountability to the top, minimizes career development opportunities, and is sometimes characterized

by low employee morale, line or staff conflicts, poor delegation of authority, and inadequate planning GROUP ASSURANCE OF LEARNING EXERCISE 4 3 for products and markets (David & David, 2017, p. 215). Some of SBU cons are when separate units

are created an additional layer of top management is needed, which can be expensive and

difficult to manage. SBUs require coordination from head office to align with the group's overall

objectives? (Sammut-Bonnici & McGee, 2015, p.1).

By making a change in the organizational structure, you are taking away the control at the

top levels of an organization and bringing it to level that can greatly facilitate strategyimplementation efforts (David & David, 2017, p. 1). ?This change in structure can facilitate

strategy implementation by improving coordination between similar divisions and channeling

accountability to distinct business units? (David & David, 2017, p.218). The functional structure

leads to short-term, narrow thinking and this can lead to communication problems (David &

David, 2017, p. 215). Nucor?s executive management team has eight white, males, which shows

a lack of diversity (David & David, 2017, p. 215). This is why SBU is a good change for Nucor. GROUP ASSURANCE OF LEARNING EXERCISE 4 1. Hero/Heroine

A Hero is someone who is heavily respected by others, usually for an act or deed that has

been done (David & David, 2017, p.94). Based on Liberty University?s article titled ?Heroes

Fund Scholarship?, it appears that an example of a hero could be someone who protects freedom

or has protected freedom such as a veteran (?Heroes Fund Scholarship?).

Belief

A belief, according to the textbook, is an ?understanding of particular phenomena?

(David & David, 2017, p.94). According to Liberty?s doctrinal statement, there is a ?belief? in

God and the Bible, which means there is an understanding that God and the Bible exist and are

real (?Doctrinal Statement?).

Metaphor

A metaphor is considered ?shorthand of words used to capture a vision or to reinforce old

or new values? (David & David, 2017, p.94). An author may use a metaphor to express

something, such as a love being expressed as a rose and thorn (?The Topic Sentence?s Best

Friend?).

Language

Language is the way that individuals or groups of people can communicate (David &

David, 2017, p.94). According to Liberty?s explanation of the ELI program (English Language

Institute), an example of a Language could be English, which is the language of the United States

(?The English Language Institute?).

Value GROUP ASSURANCE OF LEARNING EXERCISE 4 7 Value, according to the textbook, is ?Life-directing attitudes that serve as behavioral

guidelines? (David & David, 2017, p.94). A great example found through Liberty?s news and

events sound that Michael Reagan, Ronald Reagan?s son, shares values passed down to him by

his dad, such as being who you are and not being afraid when it comes to taking a stand

(?Michael Reagan relays values?).

Symbol

A symbol is something that represents something else that is meaningful or something

that can ?convey meaning? (David & David, 2017, p.94). Liberty University?s general

information contains an example of symbol, the University Seal, which represents the

?administrative authority of the University? (?General Information?).

Story

According to the textbook, a story is a ?narrative usually based on true events? (David &

David, 2017, p.94). Liberty has a great example of a story, in which their Liberty Worship

Collective has a page named ?Our Story? which explains the story of the collective and how they

celebrate Jesus (?Our Story?).

Legend- Jerry Falwell is a legend of Liberty University. His efforts and fund-raising for

the school made it possible for the school to be where it is today. Satan did not want him to

succeed. He had to persist through many prayerful and uncertain times. With God?s leading, he

succeeded in making Liberty what it is today. ?Today his vision has been fulfilled, with more

than 15,000 students attending classes on campus in Lynchburg, Va., and more than 94,000

students from all 50 states and 85 countries taking courses through Liberty University Online?.

(? Dr. Jerry Falwell?) GROUP ASSURANCE OF LEARNING EXERCISE 4 8 Saga- The saga of Jerry Falwell?s achievement in creating Liberty University includes

rejection of grant money from the state as well as multiple members of all around the world

contributing to keep the dream alive. He stayed true to his vision and mission statement and God

has blessed Liberty University. His saga is relived in the Jerry Falwell museum. ?We invite you

to visit us soon, and learn more about the incredible life and legacy of the man behind the

vision.? (?Jerry Falwell Museum?) Folktale- Much folktale is presented at Liberty University. Some interpret these stories as

symbols or folklore while others of us take them literally and believe in the folktales presented as

literal, historical events. The Liberty University library is always adding books with tales of

folklore. (?New additions to the library?s holdings?) Myth- A myth of Liberty University is that you are required to be a certain type of person

in order to be accepted to the school. Contrary to some perception, one need only agrees to basic

moral and commitment codes in order to enroll and stay enrolled at Liberty University. Liberty

can almost be used as a witnessing tool for those that are searching. You cannot help but get to

know Gods incredible Love. ?Therefore, in our efforts to bring the lost with the Gospel, we must

know who we are.? (?Reflection on the state of evangelism today?) Ceremony- Graduation ceremony is an example of a ceremony for Liberty University. I

think ceremonies mark the achievement so we do not forget. One of the special ceremonies at

Liberty is that for veterans. ?Out of the nearly 17,500 graduates to be honored at Liberty GROUP ASSURANCE OF LEARNING EXERCISE 4 9 University's 41st Commencement on Saturday, over 5,000 ? nearly 30 percent ? are active,

reserve, or retired military.? (?News Archive?) GROUP ASSURANCE OF LEARNING EXERCISE 4 10 Reference:
