Team member effectiveness is important for the group to have solid group dynamics.
These peer evaluations give the group opportunity assess the performance of each team member.
According to Mayhew (n.d.), "Employees usually are honest about their assessment of team
member performance, especially as it relates to interpersonal relationships with other team
members" (para. Team Member Performance Evaluation Techniques). The evaluation assessment
results will allow group members to view and give feedback on each of other results to better
achieve higher group dynamics.
Do you agree with your results?
After taking the assessment, I first did not agree with my results, because I wasn't clear
about the meaning of each category. After reading Chapter 8 on how to boost effectiveness by
examining team member strengths, sharing personal expectations, setting goals that are common,
commitment and agreeing on the process of communication, I have a better understanding of my
scores in each category and agree with the results. The assessment results helped put some
things into perspective as to what I need to change to enhance more self-awareness to be an
effective team member and be productive as a leader.
Based on your self-assessment, what do you see as your strengths and weaknesses
regarding working on a team?
Base on the scores I received on my self-assessment:

Keeping the Team on Track
Score: 2.8 pts.
Expecting Quality
Score: 5 pts.
Having Relevant Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Score: 4.5 pts.
These results determine that I need to work on all areas of team effectiveness. Although I
have received a higher score for expecting quality and having relevant Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities (KSAs) there is always room for improvement in those areas. My weaknesses in areas
of contributing to team's work, interacting with team members and keeping the team on track can
be change by becoming an initiator, orienteer, energizer, standard setter and commentator. These
task and maintenance role can help me keep the group headed toward their mutual goals, prods
team members to move along to accomplish more, and record and comment more on group
progress and dynamics. My strength in expecting quality and having relevant KSAs I received
higher scores, but can still enhance in these areas by being more encouraging and accepting and
praising team members, harmonizing conflict by reconciliation and humor, and becoming a
gatekeeper by encouraging team members to continue to participate. Therefore, because of my
weaknesses from my self-assessment, I was able to interact with my team this week much more
than in the previous weeks. EVALUATE TEAM MEMBER EFFECTIVENESS 4 Have you ever engaged in social loafing while on a team? Why or why not?
To a certain degree I may have been guilty of social loafing while on my team. I am
guilty of being lazy or waiting to see if another team member is going to take the initiative before
I provide my input of ideas and perspectives. However, I have learned the importances of
building trust amongst your teammates. Your commitment is very crucial to the team completing
and achieving your goals. Therefore, my participation is very important for the strength of the
group that shows good group dynamics.
How does working effectively on a team give you an advantage in the workplace?
Mattson (2015) states, "Two heads are better than one." Mattson believes that teamwork
benefits you in the workplace in six ways:
1) Fostering creativity and learning
2) Blends complementary strengths
3) Build Trust
4) Resolving conflict skills
5) Promote a wider sense of ownership, and
6) Encourage healthy risk-taking.
By combining each team member perspectives, together we can create more effective
results. Working together promotes trust and strong relationships, and a sense of safety with
team members to emerge ideas. When a team member has conflicts, they can resolve them
without involving management. It can lead to higher level jobs and fulfillment within yourself
and in the company. EVALUATE TEAM MEMBER EFFECTIVENESS 5 How do groups normally develop?
According to Chapter 8, group's development process often evolves along five defined
steps: forming, storming, and norming, performing and adjourning. By learning these steps it
can help you understand group dynamics and be more effective in groups.
How does the effectiveness of the team members influence the group's development
process?
The keys to team effectiveness are based upon the leadership, participation, aligned
purpose, future focused and creativity according to Chapter 8. The 3 Cs' (Charters and strategies,
Composition and Capacity) are needed to for the development process. The results of these
influences come from the rewards, competition and collaboration that plays an important role in
the development of effectiveness of the team. Without the knowledge of the 3 Cs,' the team will
not succeed.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I want to be more effective in the role that I play in my group. I have
learned ways to work on my weaknesses through the self-assessment and is now eager to take the
initiative to interact more with my team. Because I have committed myself to my team, I will
not exhibit traits of social loafing and learn from my scores what it take to have good group
